Fab City Zagreb
A city that produces knowledge, innovation and a sustainable future. We are part of the global Fab City network, building locally productive, globally connected communities through STEAM, digital fabrication, the circular economy and collaboration.
Current focus
Open spaces for learning, making, prototyping and developing sustainable local solutions.
What is Fab City?
Local resilience, global knowledge.
Fab City is an international initiative that encourages cities to build local production capacity while sharing knowledge, technology and experience globally.
Instead of a linear model in which cities import most products and export waste, Fab City promotes local systems that make communities more resilient through production, innovation, education and the circular use of resources.
Fab City Zagreb
Zagreb joined the initiative in 2018 at the invitation of Fab Lab Barcelona during the Fab City Summit in Paris. The initiative in Croatia was launched by FabLab Hrvatska in cooperation with the City of Zagreb.
Vision 2054
Cities build capacity for production, education and innovation, and actively involve citizens in shaping their own future.

How do we build Fab City?
From knowledge to sustainable solutions.
Building a STEAM ecosystem
Through workshops, festivals, courses, Maker activities and hands-on projects, citizens of all ages gain the skills to take an active part in developing their communities.
Digital fabrication
3D modelling, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC technologies, electronics, programming and digital design enable the development of local products and prototypes.
Circular economy
Repair, material reuse, recycling, local production and resource sharing make cities more resilient.
Community as the driver
The way we work begins by recognising local potential and involving citizens in planning activities, spaces and projects.

Zagreb as a laboratory for urban innovation
We develop open spaces where education, entrepreneurship, research and civil society test practical solutions to local challenges together. These spaces connect knowledge, equipment and people around rapid prototyping.

Learning by making
Hands-on programmes for schools, universities and citizens combine design, digital fabrication and teamwork. Through the workshops participants build skills, prototypes and the confidence to create.

Circular resources
Waste streams become an opportunity for new local products, repairs and circular models of material use. Through shared experiments we look for solutions that cut waste and strengthen local production.

From idea to hub
